Frankie’s First Day at the Heartspring Therapeutic Residential & Day School
Families with children and teens with severe, or level 3, autism face many challenges. Not only can communication, self-injurious or violent behaviors, and related medical issues impact relationships, but ensuring they have the correct care for their needs is beyond challenging. It’s often frustrating and even heartbreaking.
One of our Heartspring Therapeutic School family's only options for their son's treatment was to relinquish their parental rights to their home state and keep him in a psychiatric hospital.
Not willing to lose their son, they started to research residential care programs in other states. Enter the Heartspring Therapeutic Residential & Day School, nearly 700 miles away.
While we're grateful to help a family keep their son and care for him in our program, we know it's extremely difficult for our families to send their children out of state to protect their best interests and support their growth.
“Our families come to Heartspring from all over the country, because they know our team will educate their child, strengthen their ability to self-calm, and provide all the necessary medical and therapeutic support needed for them to gain more independence,” says Dan Soliday, Heartspring President & CEO. “Most importantly, they know their child will be loved.”
We'd like to thank Frankie’s family for courageously sharing their journey with others, helping other caregivers know they’re not alone in finding appropriate care for their children.
With the rising number of neurodevelopmental disorder diagnoses like autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities, it's critical to develop infrastructure like Heartspring around the country to serve these children and families.
